LAHORE: Amir Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Sirajul Haq Thursday warned of staging sit-ins outside the residences of lawmakers who are ‘engaged in the appalling business of selling the Senate votes’.
“These lawmakers deserve to be grabbed from their collar and held to account,” Sirajul Haq said while talking to media persons here at the office of Election Commission after filing his nomination papers for Senate polls.
He said there cannot be an act of greater shame than parliamentarians’ presenting themselves as saleable ‘cattle’. People had to wait in long queues to cast their votes in favour of these lawmakers, he added.
He appealed to the lawmakers to flatly reject the bids from those who were trying to offer them money in exchange for their votes. The era is long gone when some powerful people could buy others for a few cents, he added.
