HYDERABAD: The gushing water of Sindhi Maha Sagar ( also called Arabian sea) was fast eroding lands of fertile coastal belt of Sujawal and Thatta districts due to releasing no water in Indus river downstream Kotri. According to water accord between provinces Punjab is bound to release 10 million acre feet (MAF) water downstream Kotri bus since last few years the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) has blocked the water to downstream Kotri causing backward flow of sea not only eroding fertile lands of coastal belt of Thatta, Sujawal and to some extent Badin districts. So far 298,000 acres of land of coastal districts have been eroded and the rural populations of these districts who have their livelihood on agriculture and fisheries have started to migrate. According to another survey the gushing sea water has been flowing backwards to dry Indus River and its flow has reached Dulha Darya Khan Bridge.
The coastal areas population is scared and finding to way to migrate. It is amazing that Senators and MNAs from Sindh have failed to convince IRSA to release water downstream Kotri to save Indus delta as also more than 3 million population of Sujawal and Thatta distrcts.
