KARACHI: Heavy rains lashed the metropolis early Saturday morning, leading to eight deaths in separate incidents.
Three people died from electrocution in Machar Colony while a woman and child were killed when the roof of their house collapsed in Naval Colony. Two people were also killed in SITE area and Gulshan-e-Iqbal town.
Commissioner Karachi Shoaib Ahmed Siddiqui said he was overseeing the drainage of rainwater across Karachi on the directives of Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad Khan.
Residents of the city have been critical of the administration blaming their incompetence for water accumulating on roads.
The MET office has predicted more rains in Karachi during the next 24 hours.
