Are mobile applications the next big step in digital media world?

There is no doubt in the fact that mobile phones consume a major part of any person’s day. Mobiles are used more than televisions, more than laptops in fact they are used more than any other sort of digital media. We wake up to them; use it throughout the day and again the check the phone before going to sleep. Out of the many purposes a cell phone is used for, mobile applications take almost 80% of the consumption time. This shows great potential for any business relating to mobile applications. Still, there is a huge debate about the mobile apps future.

In the rapidly growing mobile and internet industry there is a new way to shop, browse and use the web every now and then. New mobile phone models roll out with features like cam-scanners and memory storage capacity to incorporate these new inventions.  If we focus solely on online shopping there are multiple ways to do so. You can shop through a website and search on Google.  Many believe that mobile applications are adding to the confusion. Why would a person download an application specific to that store when he/she could simply find the website on Google. Browsers can be less confusing than the many million distinct applications.

On the contrary many believe that mobile applications are the next big step towards advancement.  With almost 80 percent of mobile usage being devoted to mobile apps, it is not wrong to predict that marketers would shift advertisement as well as sales to this side. We see many big names developing their own apps. Today we have billions of gaming, shopping, and learning applications. What is so different in app from regular browsing?

  • Applications are more easily approachable: here you are cutting short an added stage of opening the browser.
  • Applications a more user friendly: These spaces are designed to fit specific product images of a particular store only. So users can easily swipe through products, zoom in/out and order using the functions already available on the smartphone.
  • Applications give you simplicity and focus: On a browser you may open a thousand tabs and forget what you really wanted to do. Whereas an app is only opened when it needs to be used and you simply cannot use another function while you have opened a particular app.

It is due to this advantages and/or conveniences of mobile applications that many stores, both online as well as offline are coming up with their own renditions of online shopping applications. Worldwide it is a pretty common phenomenon but in Pakistan it is still relatively new. Kaymu.pk has just recently ventured in an online mobile shopping application where you can browse or buy with great ease. Download the app now and see the magic happen yourself.
