PPP, MQM ready to mediate: Khursheed, Sattar

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan People’s Party leader Syed Khursheed Shah and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar Thursday said that their parties are ready to play the role a mediator for resolving present political stand of.

Leader of Opposition in National Assembly Khursheed Shah and a parliamentary delegation of MQM held a meeting here at parliament lodges. Later, Shah and Dr Sattar addressed a joint press conference.

Dr. Farooq Sattar said the prevailing circumstances gave a look of a confrontation and that only a political resolution of issues should be sought. “Negotiations are the only way forward,” he added.

He warned that any escalation in the existing tension would cripple the national life.

The MQM central leader further said that even after the holding of Yaum-e-Shuhda by Pakistan Awami Tehreek and a long march by Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf the option of dialogue will have to be adopted in the end.

Syed Khursheed Shah said positive talks were held during today’s meeting with MQM delegation.

He said there should be no compromise on the role of Parliament. “All stakeholders must function within the domain of the Parliament … we will not be a part of any conspiracy,” he added.

Khursheed Shah said contact has been established with PTI Chairman Imran Khan and that soon their meeting will also be held. He said the talks would be held on basis of quid pro quo.
