Mamnoon to attend Afghan President’s inauguration

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain will fly to Kabul on Monday to attend the oath-taking ceremony of Afghan President-elect Ashraf Ghani.
According to a statement from the Foreign Office, the visit will help strengthen fraternal ties between the two countries.
“President’s participation in the inauguration ceremony underscores Pakistan’s consistent support for peaceful democratic transition in Afghanistan,” the statement read.
Pakistan has already congratulated the Afghan people and leadership on the signing of the agreement on government of national unity and completion of the electoral process.
Former finance minister Ashraf Ghani was named Afghanistan’s president-elect on September 21 after he signed a deal to share power with his opponent, Abdullah Abdullah, ending months of turmoil over a disputed election that destabilised the country as most foreign troops prepare to leave.
