LAHORE: The government has completed the formation of Joint Investigation Team (JIT) to probe the Model Town tragedy and it will begin work on the assigned task from Wednesday.
The five-member team is headed by CCPO Quetta Abdul Razzaq Cheema and comprises Col Ahmed from Inter Service Intelligence (ISI), Muhammad Ali from Intelligence Bureau (IB) and SSP Shahzad Akbar and DSP Khalid Abu Bakar from Police.
On June 17 this year Punjab police had carried out an action against the encroachments around the residence of Dr Allama Tahirul Qadri and Minhajul Quran Secretariat in Model Town, Lahore. Fourteen people had been killed and scores others injured in the ensuing clash between the police and Minhajul Quran workers.
Later, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT), led by Dr Allama Tahirul Qadri, had lodged an FIR of the incident against 21 people including Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shahbaz.
