Irrigation officials need to be vigilant and proper patrolling, monitoring of sensitive dykes: CM

CM Sindh angry over Irrigation officials’ failure and praised Pak-Army work on

Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah along with Senior Minister Information and Irrigation Sindh and local Government Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah paid a visit at Shaink and Qadirpur loop Bund Ghotki on Tuesday and expressed his serious concern over the weak condition of Shaink Band.
He said, repairing of Shaink bund was responsibility of OGDCL but they did not paid heed to repairing, strict action will be taken against the involved in negligence.
He further said, thousands of people have displaced, hundreds of villages have inundated and crops have been damaged only due to negligence of OGDCL. Qaim appreciated the role of Pak Army in flood relief activities.
Commissioner Sukkur Abbas balouch given the briefing to Sindh Chief Minister, while there were no any irrigation official were present at the visit of Chief Minister Sindh, Qaim Ali Shah shown his anger on Irrigation officials on the occasion.
Irrigation Minister, Nisar Khauro said total 700,000 cusec water can pass through Sindh, but downpour won’t stop the water and it can increase, while 46 sensitive bunds are being patrolled and observed to avoid any mishap he said.
Tahir Watu, Deputy Commissioner Ghotki kept himself away from the media, while some of Ghotki Correspondents tried to contact DC Ghotki several times his cell number remained out of reach continuously told the media men.
It is also pertinent to be mentioned here that the irrigation officials of Reverine districts were found sleeping at night despite of high flood warnings issued for Guddu, Kashmore, Larkana, Sukkur, Ghotki, on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Heavy flood water reported over 570768 million cusec upstream and 568218 cusecs downstream, while Sukkur Barrage reported 530050 cusecs and downstream 519420 cusecs deluge mounted pressure on Guddu and emergency declared due to high level pressure on sensitive embankments particularly Kashmore, Ghotki, Larkana, Sukkur areas.
When this scribe tried to locate irrigation officials about emergency and contact person at sensitive dykes several among sleeping at homes and some of them angry over the disturbance, humiliate and used abusive language on the occasion.
This scribe once tried to locate concerned District Commissioners except one attended phone and others were found switched off, while provincial Irrigation Minister mobile was also switched off at night, later the PRO told that Senior Minister busy with Chief Minister Sindh in an emergency meeting after at about 12 am.
The civil society representatives have condemned the attitude of irrigation officials and warned more vigilant for upcoming threat of flood and proper monitoring at night. The District administration should take it serious.
They also demanded of the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah and law enforcement agencies about vigilant over the current situation of River Indus to protect the cities of flood devastation.
