KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived here on Wednesday to chair a high-level meeting to review the law and order situation and ongoing targeted operation in the city.
The meeting was attended by the top civilian and political leadership, along with Army Chief Raheel Sharif and former President Asif Ali Zardari.
DG Rangers briefed the meeting on the ongoing targeted operation in the city.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called for increased intelligence sharing to combat terrorists and criminal elements in the city. The prime minister asked why illegal SIMs were not being blocked. On the issue of criminals who have fled the country, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif asked why red warrants had not been issued.
Following the high-level meeting on law and order, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif met with representatives of political parties.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said that the provincial and federal governments were serious in their efforts to establish peace in Karachi.
He also called upon political parties to come on the same page for this purpose.
The representatives of political parties agreed that the targeted operation should continue in Karachi.
The prime minister said all political parties wanted peace in Karachi and terrorists will not be allowed to take political cover.
According to sources, former President Zardari said he would support all measures of the government which would bring peace in Karachi.
