KARACHI: Fire erupted in the basement of a three-story residential building in Liaquatabad on Saturday, Geo News reported.
Details have it that the fire broke out in the basement of a building in Firdous Market and witnesses told that women and children got trapped on the upper floors of the building.
Fire brigades were called in to extinguish the flames and to rescue the trapped families in the three-storey building.
It may be mentioned that it is the second incident of fire in less than 24 hours in the city. Earlier, fire engulfed a factory located in SITE area and almost all the fire tenders at the disposal of the Fire Brigade Department were trying to douse the flames until today morning.
A portion of the factory building collapsed after midnight due to intensity of the fire.
Officials said the third degree fire erupted at a factory located near Walika Chowrangi, adding that they were facing difficulties to extinguish the flames as the factory lacked “an appropriate space for movement”.
Some explosions were also heard from the factory as chemical containers caught fire.
Sindh Governor Ishratul Ebad directed the authorities to call in Pakistan Navy fire tenders.
He telephoned Karachi Administrator and Commissioner to express his concerns over the incident.
