LARKANA: Famous Human Rights expert Tanveer Jahan said on Tuesday that Human Rights Defenders in Pakistan are life line of human rights work in Pakistan and truly an endangered species.
They are facing tremendous risks and are intimidated, harassed, abducted, detained and murdered as well, she said this while addressing two days training workshop for human Rights Defenders on “Security and Risk Management” which was organized by The Civil Society Support Program Larkana in collaboration with Rights of Expression, Assembly, Association and Thought (REAT) Network here at local hotel.
The workshop was facilitated by renowned human rights expert Tanveer Jahan and attended by 40 human rights and social activists of the Larkana district.
She apprised that UN General Assembly had passed a landmark declaration for human rights defenders in the year 1998 and it is very sad testimony that the state does not provide sufficient protection and the country lacks HRD protection mechanism both at state and society level.
Ms. Jahan further said that several human rights activists including Zarteen Khan Afridi, Rashid Rehman, Parveen Rehman and Sabeen Mahmud have rendered sacrifices for defending human rights but their murderers have not been caught yet.
The workshop, she said, mainly dealt with assessing the risks and threats and prepare personal, home and office security plans so that any threat could be averted.
Afzal Sheikh of CSSP said that they had formed a district level group of 45 human rights activists who keep close eye on district level human rights situation and further mitigate the violation especially minority rights violation.
He said that the objective of the workshop was to capacitate individuals and organizations of knowing their threats and vulnerabilities so that they could be able to manage their personal security.
The event was attended by Syed Jawed Shah, Shamsuddin chandio, Imtiaz Gorar, Qadir Bux Qamangur, Advocate Sattar Hulio, Khalida Sahar, Hameeda Kalhoro, officials of the police department and other civil society activists.
LARKANA: Road accident claimed three lives, including a 6-months old baby, a woman and leaving another woman seriously injured in collision with Tractor trolley and Quinchi Riksha here near Arieja Phero at -Kamber road here on Monday.
According to police details a speedy tractor-trolley hit Quinchi rickshaw near Bachal Mahessar village near Arija Phero road Larkana in the jurisdiction of Arija Police Station resulting Man, Woman and child were killed on the spot while another woman sustained critical injuries, the dead bodies and wounded woman were shifted to CMC Hospital Larkana.
They were identified as Haji Huran Kharoos (55), Mst. Khursheed Begum (38) and a minor baby Baby Sarohi 6 month old.
The ill-fated family was traveling by Quinchi rickshaw in a way to village Bachal Maehssar when head of tractor-trolley was collided with the Quinchi rickshaw. Police said the driver of the tractor escaped from the scene.
Police reached at scene and took tractor-trolley and Quinchi rickshaw in custody.
The dead bodies were handed over to heirs after medico legal formalities by hospital administration.
The case of incident was registered at Arieja Phero Police Station of Larkana district against the tractor drive, further investigation is underway
LARKANA: Civil Society Support Program Larkana in collaboration with Sindhi Adabi Sangat Larkana Chapter and REAT Network organized a “Rawadari Mushaira” here at Press Club Larkana.
The prominent poets of Sindh gave a message of peace and harmony through their couplet. The writers and poets called to established peace, love and harmony in the society.
Speaking at the program, renowned poet and writer Prof. Mukhtiar Samo said that there is a lack of tolerance in the society and therefore, steps should be taken to promote peace and harmony. He said that poets and writers can contribute in the development of society by creating public awareness on harmony, peace and tolerance through their poetry and writings. Mr. Samo appreciated the efforts of civil society for their intervention with poets and said the poets are the major stakeholders of the society.
Dr Zulfiqar Siyal, another poet said that poets have always played an important role in addressing the social issues and creating the peace and harmony in the society. He said that writers and poets should come forward and intensify their efforts for the promotion of peace and harmony.
The famous Sindhi poets included Dr. Bashir Ahmed Shaad, Sarmad Chandio, Jawad Jafferi, Dr. Ahsan Danish, Ali Zahid, Rizwan Gul, Malhar Sindhi, Anees Gul, Khalid Chandio, Karim Balouch and others recited their poetry and enthralled the listeners with their distinguished styles.
Sindh Adabi Sangat Larkana Chapter Secretary Sattar Hulio, Larkana Press Club President S.Iqbal Babu, Afzal Shaikh and others also addressed.

GHOTKIL: Rangers raided Taluka Municipal Administration (TMA) office Ghotki on Monday.
According to reports, security forces conducted a raid on TMA Ghotki office and confiscated the present record at office while rangers directed Town Officer Tariq Bughio to produce the remaining office record of previous seven years from 2008 in Rangers Office Sukkur.
