KHIARPUR: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah inaugurated a project of houses completed by SOS Children’s Village Pakistan, in collaboration with the Sindh government, on the National Highways near Shah Abdul Latif University Khairpur; a simple but impressive ceremony held for the purpose, was also addressed by ex- Senator and Federal Information and Broadcasting Minister, Mr. Javed Jabbar, Souriya Anwar, the President SOS Children’s village Pakistan and others.
In the first phase, five homes have been completed and 10 more homes will be constructed in the second phase; the Sindh government has allotted 8 acres land and initially provided an amount of Rs. 50 million for the project.
Addressing the ceremony, the CM said that those children who were neglected and deprived of parental love, affection and caring can be made useful citizens of the society by arranging their proper education and providing them training and conducive environment. The CM eulogized the services rendered by SOS Children’s Village Pakistan and held out an assurance of continued financial and other assistance.
Former Federal Minister, Mr. Javed Jabbar, who is also chairman the Advisory Council, SOS Children’s Village Pakistan, said that children neglected and deprived of love, affection and caring, developed a deep sense of inferior complex when we called them orphan, adding that it was a collective obligation to remove this stigma and make them a useful and successful citizen of our society.
He informed that SOS Children’s village Pakistan was striving hard for last 4 decade and now had its presence in 17 cities and towns across the country with active support of philanthropists and well-to-do persons and institutions; he threw light on the success story and informed the audience that a good number of children, who were trained at these villages, were now leading a successful lives in important walks of life.
Mr. Javed Jabbar appreciated the Sindh government for financial assistance and allotment of land; he also praised personal interest evinced by area MNA Nafeesa Shah and Divisional Commissioner Sukkur, Muhammad Abbas Baloch in completion of the project.
Mr. Javed Jabbar further informed that 150 children not only hailing from Khairpur district only but from the entire upper region of the province would be given admission in these homes purely on merit. He further informed that each SOS home was being completed at the cost of Rs.5 million and appealed to well-to-do persons of the area for their contribution.
