Chinese national injured in Karachi blast

KARACHI: Two people, including a Chinese national, were injured in a blast in Karachi’s Gulshan-e-Hadeed area on Monday.
According to initial reports, a roadside bomb went off as the Chinese national’s vehicle passed by Quaid-e-Azam Park in Steel Town. The Chinese national is said to be the target of the attack.
A warning letter from a nationalist party was reportedly recovered from the site of the blast.
Addressing the media, Malir SSP Rao Anwar claimed that a suspect has been detained and investigations are underway.
Finche, a Chinese national and driver Tariq Aziz, 25, were identified as those injured. Taking notice of the incident, the Sindh IG has asked DIG Sindh for details on the blast
Further, Rangers arrived at the site of the blast and began a search operation, sources said.
In November last year, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif assured that the government will provide full security to Chinese workers in Pakistan.
“China is a very close friend to Pakistan besides being a strategic partner and the government will provide full security to the Chinese workers in Pakistan,” PM Nawaz said while chairing a review meeting in Islamabad to monitor progress on projects related to the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor.
Further, the premier asked directed the Interior Ministry to beef up security for Chinese workers associated with different projects in the country.
China had earlier called for better security provision for its workers engaged in the CPEC, a multi-billion dollars project aimed at starting new economic opportunities in the South Asian region.
Chinese ambassador to Pakistan Sun Weidong during a meeting with Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan in Islamabad on October 14 had demanded the provision of fool-proof security to all Chinese workers associated with the CPEC.
