SRINAGAR: Forum led by veteran Hurriyet leader, Syed Ali Geelani has strongly condemned arrest of seven Muslim youth in Kishtwar area of Jammu and registration of treason charges for participating in a peaceful procession on Eid day in Held Kashmir.
The forum in a statement issued in Held Srinagar demanded immediate release of the detainees and withdrawal of charges framed against them on Tuesday.
“The Kishtwar police arrested all the seven youth at the behest of a local BJP MLA and the VDC commanders in order to harass and terrorize the Muslim population of the region,” the forum Spokesman, Ayaz Akbar said.
The Muslims of the area took out a peaceful march from Eidgah. The march ended peacefully and no untoward incident occurred. The police after only an hour on the directions of the local BJP MLA and the VDC commanders started arresting the youth, detaining Abdul Ghani Butt, Imran Ahmad Butt, Bilal Ahmad Butt, Sajid Hussain, Raj Mohammad, Mudasir Ahmad and Auqib Rasool.
The spokesman threatened with serious consequences if all the arrested youth were not released and charges framed against them were not withdrawn.
