Army soldiers busy in rescue and evacuation operation at Sundar Industrial Estate

LAHORE: About 250 army persons worked throughout the night to rescue and evacuate more than 150 labourers buried under the rubble of a four storey under construction factory that collapsed yesterday evening at Sundar Industrial Estate.The army response was quick and specialized field engineer troops from Lahore Garrison with requisite equipment including loaders, excavators and dozers were employed immediately at the site of incident. A specialised team of experts of Urban Search and Rescue Effort belonging to Pak Army was also moved immediately on direction of army high command from Rawalpindi by a special plane to join rescue and relief operation and assist in excavation and safe evacuation of people buried under the debris. General Officer Commanding Major General Tariq Amman was present at the site and personally supervised the rescue effort. According to latest information about 10​3​ persons have been so far successfully evacuated alive, while 23 dead bodies have been recovered. The rescue operation is still underway.
