RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif Wednesday said that Pakistan army believes in the stability of democracy and supremacy of the law and Constitution.
Addressing an impressive ceremony to pay tribute to the martyrs (Shuhda) of armed forces and their families on Yaum-e-Shuhada here at General Headquarts (GHQ), the Army Chief said all the institutions should work together towards success of the system.
He said Pakistan army has been keeping an eye on both internal and external challenges and it has the capability to deal with the dangers. Pakistan army will frustrate the motives of the enemies of the country, he added.
He said it is incumbent upon everyone to remember the golden principles laid down by Quaid-e-Azam.
“Fortunate are those among us who embraced Shahadat (martyrdom),” he said, adding that the blood of the martyrs will not go to waste and ‘we, as a nation, will continue to stand with their families’.
“Shahadat is a supreme status and the Pak army is full of the spirit of Shahadat.”
Lauding the media’s sacrifices, General Raheel Sharif said he believed in the freedom of media and responsible journalism.
“Pak army will continue to play its role towards the progress of prosperity of the country and the nation,” he stressed.
Describing Kashmir as Pakistan’s jugular vein, he said it is an international dispute for which UN resolutions also continue to exist. Its resolution is crucial for the peace and stability of the region, he added.
He said 20,000 people from Balochistan province had joined the armed forces which reflects their trust in Pak army.
The Army Chief said that Pak army supports every effort that is directed towards elimination of terrorism and restoration of peace.
