Aitzaz calls for introduction of fresh blood in PPP

KARACHI: Senior leader of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Aitzaz Ahsan Saturday called for introduction of new blood into the party, saying the leaders over the age of 50 years be brought back from the front.

Addressing a massive public meeting near Quadi-e-Azam’s mausoleum, that is said to mark the inauguration of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s political career, Aitzaz said today’s procession is an important milestone in the PPP’s history.

“The people of Karachi and other parts of the country welcome you (Bilawal),” he said, amid slogans of ‘Jeay Bhutto’ from the thousands of participants who had made to the venue from many parts of the country to listen to their young leader.

He said whenever PPP makes its grand entry into the political arena it invariably changes the dynamics of the game.

Aitzaz said PPP is presently confronted with many political challenges and mentioned the recent by-election in Multan in which PPP’s candidate stood third. He underscored changing this result by following the democratic practices and norms, adding ‘for this we will have to work day and night’.

He said the people welcome you (Bilawal) and they expect that you would introduce fresh blood into the party.

Aitzaz called for chalking out a new manifesto of the party for the women and youngsters.

“Those over the age of 50 years of age including Yousuf Raza Gilani, Raja Pervez Ashraf and others be brought back from the front and youngsters be allowed to play a leading role in the party. This is a party of the youngsters,” he said.

Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto became PMs in their thirties.

He chanted along with the participants “Nara-e-Bhutto, Jeay Bhutto”, “Jab Tak Suraj Chand Rahay Gaa, Bhutto Tera Naam Rahay Gaa”.

He paid rich tributes to the PPP workers who lost their lives and limbs in the October 18, 2007 Carsaz twin bomb blasts.

Former prime minister, Yousuf Raza Gilani said your presence in large numbers prove that PPP is the largest party of Pakistan.

“I congratulate Bilawal Bhutto who would carry forward the incomplete mission of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto,” he said.

He said Benazir Bhutto gave this country the much-needed missile technology.

He said PPP during its previous rule rendered true service to the nation by doing a number of things including restoration of the 1973 Constitution in its original shape and introduction of National Finance Commission (NFC) Award.
