27 killed in various rain related incidents in Punjab, Kashmir

LAHORE: Twenty-seven people were killed including three security men and dozens others injured in several rain related incidents including roof collapse across Punjab and Azad Kashmir due to heavy rain, Geo News reported on Thursday.

Due to land sliding in Azad Kashmir, three security personnel were killed while the met department has issued warning to travelers who are traveling to Azad Kashmir.

Most of the victims who lost their lives in various rain related incidents included women and children.

Rescue sources said six members of a family were killed in the incident that occurred in Chahmeran area in Lahore.

In separate incidents, eight persons were injured as the roof of two houses caved in near LDA Plaza and Mazang areas.

Four persons were killed in different incidents in Sialkot due to heavy downpour for the past two days.

One person was killed and two others were injured in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir area while in Faisalabad, a mason was killed when roof of his house came down. A girl child was killed and two others injured when the roof of their house collapsed in a village in Narowal area.

A woman was injured when the roof of a house came down in Chiniot near Lahore road.

Other incidents occurred in GOR, Johar Town, Sabzazar, Faisalabad and Gujranwala areas.

It may be noted here that rain, continuing since last evening, has inundated low-lying areas in Azad Kashmir and Punjab including Lahore and its adjacent areas. Several vehicles got struck in the rainwater.

The met office has forecast that the downpour is expected to continue until Monday.
