MUMBAI, Nov. 8: An Indian gambler was arrested from Shere Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur on Saturday, it is learnt here.
According to the highly placed sources in the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) and the Police, the gambler was arrested during the first ODI between the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe on Saturday.
The first of the three ODI matches was won by Bangladesh by 145 runs. The two Twenty20 matches will be played after the ODI series.
The identity of the so-called “Indian fan” is revealed as Shurab Chawdhury.
“Shurab Chawdhury was produced before the court to-day and is now in the police custody for the investigations,” said one of the sources.
“Police will interrogate him and find out the reason for his trip to Bangladesh and reasons for him him to arrive at the Stadium to watch the Bangladesh-Zimbabwe match. He will also be asked to disclose the name of his sponsor and how did he get the match-ticket”, the source further added.
“We want to ensure whether he is also involved in match-fixing (spot-fixing) or is a mere gambler involved in betting”, the source further added.
Shahadat wife gets bail
In the meantime, the wife of Shahadat Hossain was granted bail. “Shahadat Hossain remains in jail since last 15 days. His wife was granted bail by the court as they have a small child”.
The 29-year-old right-arm fast bowler Shahadat and his wife have been charged for torturing the maid servant.
