Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has expressed displeasure on 35 per cent utilization of development funds so far released to the education department and directed them to ensure proper and in time utilization of the funds.
This he said while presiding over a meeting on the Performance of Education Department in the CM House on Monday.
The education department in a presentation told the Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah that in the current Annual Development Programme (ADP) the finance department has allocated Rs8518.9 million for completion of on-going developments schemes of seven different sectors of the education department. The finance department, against the allocation of Rs8518.9 million, has released Rs2079.902 million in the first tranche, of them only Rs566.9 million have been utilized so far.
The chief minister taking it seriously asked the reason of 35 percent utilization of the released funds. On this Secretary Education Mr. Fazulllullah Pechuho said ” the education department do not execute development work on its own but it is done by Works & Services Department,” and added “the finance department releases funds directly to the education department and then we release the same funds to Secretary Works & Services Department who also release the funds onward to their engineers for payment to the contractors.”
The Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah urged Senior Minister for Education Mr. Nisar Khuhro to ensure in time and proper utilization of the funds. “In time utilization of funds would produce good results,” the chief minister observed.
It may be noted that there are six sectors of Education department in the ADP 2013-14. These sectors are elementary Education of Rs.670.783 million, Teachers Education Rs.60.672 million, Secondary Education Rs.3182.422; College Education Rs2169.021; Higher Education Rs.1475.144 million and other small schemes of Rs.960.874 million. In this way the total allocation of these on-going schemes comes to Rs8518.9 million.

Out of 5000 closed schools 2022 opened

Giving presentation to the Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah on fictionalizing the closed school in the province, Senior Minister Education Mr. Nisar Ahmed Khuhro said that over all 5000 schools were closed when the PPP government came into power about one and half years ago. Of them the department has fictionalized 2900 schools by taking drastic steps such as transfer/postings, new recruitment made through NTS.
Mirpurkhas Division:The director Schools in his briefing told the chief minister that there were 8380 schools in Mirpurkhas division, of them 1586 were closed when PPP returned to power in Sindh for second tenure it, fictionalized 1181 schools in Mirpurkhas Division.
Larkana:The Director Schools Mrs Zaibunisa briefing the meeting said that there were 9159 schools in Larkana Division, among 418 were closed. The department taking administrative measures has fictionalized 158 schools and still 347 are closed.
Sukkur: Director Sukkur Division told the meeting that there were 9591 schools in the division, of them 607 were closed. “We have functionalized 260 schools and still 347 are to be made functional,” he said.
