KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly on Tuesday passed the Local Government (Amendment) Bill 2015 which grants the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) the authority over constituencies.
The bill was tabled by Sindh Parliamentary Affairs Minister Dr Sikandar Mandhro and was approved with majority votes.
The House rejected a proposed amendment by the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional (PML-F).
The PML-F had proposed that the ECP should be given the authority to issue the notification of Union Councils’ demarcations.
Dr Mandhro said that delimitations of Union Councils was the government’s authority and the ECP has only been given the power for a limited time.
