KARACHI: The Sindh government has put in place travel restrictions recommended by the Word Health Organization, issuing instructions to the authorities concerned.
According to provincial health department, people aspiring to travel abroad will have to get polio vaccination certificate.
The health department said those undertaking urgent travel will have to get a polio certificate for four weeks.
While, Pakistan has said World Health Organization’s recommendations regarding polio, do not contain traveling restrictions on Pakistanis.
Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam in her weekly briefing today in Islamabad said, WHO issued recommendations in its emergency committee meeting. She said, Pakistan had already informed WHO about certain impediments in polio campaign in Pakistan, which included security situation in certain pockets, terrorism and same type of vaccination. Talking about fake vaccination campaigns, she said they created misconceptions among people regarding polio campaign. She said certain, United Nation agencies were also part of Shakil Afridi’s fake campaign. She also said, WHO recommendations are meant for nominated countries to take stern measures for eradication of polio virus. Pakistan government is committed to that objective she concluded.
