ISLAMABAD: A three-member bench of the Supreme Court headed by Chief Justice Nasir-ul-Mulk has stopped the government from collecting power arrears in one go.
While hearing a case over the surcharge in power bills on Thursday, court directed the government to receive arrears from the people in installments.
The petitioner’s lawyer said that on surcharge payment seemingly appears illegal and that the government had started collecting the arrears after the suspension of the court ruling.
The Attorney General told the court that the money received in surcharge would be paid under the head of circular debt. The court later adjourned the hearing of the case till the third week of August.
