SA unanimously passes resolution to ban unregistered SIMs

KARACHI: The Sindh Assembly has unanimously passed a resolution to ban the unregistered SIMs throughout the province on Monday while National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will issue SIMs under biometric system from June 1.

The resolution was presented by Dr Seema Zia of Pakistan Tehreeke-e-Insaf (PTI) stating that illegal SIMs are being used in terrorism activities, and that single user has multiple SIMs.

Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon supported the resolution and told that during the elections, he discovered that seven SIMs had been issued on his name. He apprised the provincial assembly members that 5,000 SIMs were recovered from a terrorist belonging to a banned outfit.

He further told that as a reformatory step, SIMs will be issued under biometric system from June 1, 2014.

Sharjeel Memon told that unauthorized SIMs were not blocked despite the directives from the prime minister and Sindh government.
