SRINAGAR: On the 69th Independence Day of Pakistan on Friday, Pakistani flags were seen in Srinagar, in what is likely to raise tensions in Kashmir.
The Pakistani flags were seen in the old city of Srinagar on Friday, while the authorities imposed restrictions in parts of Srinagar city to prevent celebrations on Pakistan’s Independence Day.
“Restrictions have been imposed in seven areas of Khanyar, Nowhatta, Rainwari, M.R. Gunj, Maisuma, Kralkhud and Safa Kadal in order to maintain law and order,” a senior police officer told newsmen.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, the chairman of the moderate Hurriyat group, has been placed under house arrest.
Heavy deployment of paramilitary forces, CRPF and police has been ensured in the areas that see waving of Pakistan flags by youth groups on August 14 every year.
