Punjab Assembly to elect new chief minister today

LAHORE: The newly elected Punjab Assembly is set to elect new chief minister of the province today.

According to details, the session of the provincial legislature has been summoned at 11:00am to elect leader of the house.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has fielded Sardar Usman Buzdar whereas Hamza Shehbaz Sharif is the candidate of the opposition for the slot.

Mr Buzdar, who hails from the mountainous area of Dera Ghazi Khan, is under the media scrutiny since yesterday after a murder case registered against him and his family members in 1998 surfaced.
