PPP will resist any move to withdraw wheat subsidy from GB: Zardari

ISLAMABAD: Former President Asif Ali Zardari has expressed grave concern over reports that the government is withdrawing subsidy on wheat supplied to Gilgit Baltistan, declaring that the PPP will resist any such move.
The withdrawal of wheat subsidy from GB is a thoughtless and callous decision that will not only compound the miseries of the poor people but also deepen their sense of hurt, the former President said in a statement today.
Spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar said that the former President called upon the government to immediately reverse the decision.
Zardari said that the Prime Minister during his recent visit to GB had announced developmental projects worth 47 billion rupees and even presided over a ceremony pretending to launch the construction of Gilgit-Skardu road. However, there is no developmental project for the area and even token allocation has not been made in the PSDP for the Gilgit-Skardu road.
