KARACHI: Inspector General of Police Sindh, Ghulam Hyder Jamali on Thursday has ordered mandatory availability of 3200 cops, as security cover, for 6000 polio teams participating in Karachi wide campaign commencing on Monday.
As per details, IG chaired a meeting at Central Police Office to review security arrangements for the polio workers in the city, he said the responsibility was among the top priorities of his department.
“All necessary measures will be adopted for the cause,” he told the meeting participants including a six member delegation of Emergency Operation Centre (EoC) for Polio Eradication – Sindh led by its Coordinator, Dr. Muhammad Usman Chachar.
The meeting among others was also attended by AIG-Karachi, Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar,, DIG – Headquarters (Sindh) Abdul Alim Jafferi, DIG – West, Feroze Shah, DIG – East, Munir Shaikh,DIG – Sindh Reserve Police (SRP), Asif Ejaz Shaikh, DIG – Training, Iqbal Dara, AIG – Operations, Ghayasuddin Rashdi and other senior police officers representing Finance, Admin and Logistic sections of the police department.
IG Ghulam Hyder Jamali while dispelling the impression that non availability of security cover may have led to postponement of vaccination campaigns in the metropolis said cops would be arranged through police training centres, anti-encroachment cells, reserve police force, special security unit, crime branch and all other units of the department.
The arrangement, he assured will not only be for the coming four day oral polio vaccination campaign, beginning from November 9 but also for all similar forthcoming exercises in Karachi.
