POLIO ERADICTION IN TWO MONTHS – JAM MEHTAB HUSSAIN DAHAR

Provincial Minister Food & Health Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has said that eradication is first priority of Sindh government and Polio will be eliminated from Sindh including Karachi. There are 108 Union Councils and out of which 11 Union Councils are most venerable areas where almost all polio cases have been reported. Chief Minister Sindh has constituted 3-member committee comprising of Commissioner Karachi, Secretary Health and I.G Sindh to monitor the situation. This he said while talking to US Consul General Karachi Brian Heath here in his office on Thursday. On this occasion USAID Deputy Mission Director Leon S. Waskin and Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani were also present.
Provincial Minister health and food that all polio cases were occurred in Pashtoon dominated areas, where there were 2 lac 33 thousand children and in these areas for eradication of polio, the campaign would be launched every week on Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays. Police and Rangers would be there to provide security to polio teams. Secretary Health Iqbal Durrani told US Consul General that the health department was fully coordinating with USAID in its on- going programs. He said added ‘Foolproof arrangements have been made at entry points of the province to administer polio drops to the children.’ On this occasion Consul General suggested that Civil Society should be involved in Polio campaign. Eradication of polio is a big challenge and USAID gives importance to the child health programs. On this occasion Provincial Minister for Health and Food Jam Mehtab Hussan Dahar presented traditional Sindhi Ajrak and cap to the guests.
