ISLAMABAD: The Disciplinary Committee of Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) on Tuesday announced different punishments from suspension to warning to 23 doctors.
According to official statement released by PMDC, a meeting of the Disciplinary Committee was held to address complaints of people and patients against negligence and misconduct of doctors. The committee issued suspension orders to eight doctors, censure to three doctors. The committee issued warnings to 10 doctors for their minor misconducts while 16 doctors were exonerated for not proven guilty.
The suspended doctors were Dr. Sanaullah (41329-P) for one year, Dr. Sandeep Kumar (B-55512-S) registration suspended till appearance before DC, Dr. Azmat Mehraj (15185-P) debar to practice for five years, Dr. Masood-ur-Rehman (11104-P) registration suspended till appearance before DC, Dr. Ghulam Qadir (19428-P) registration suspended till appearance before DC, Dr. Jawad-ur-Rehman (34728-P) registration suspended till appearance before DC, Dr. M. Ejaz (Ali Shozab Surgical Clinic and Maternity, Zacha Bacha Hospital, Adda Chak No. 478 Jeem, Be, Tehsil Shorkot Distt Jhang) registration suspended till appearance before DC and Dr. Sikandar Khan (Address: Ali Shozab Surgical Clinic and Maternity, Zacha Bacha Hospital, Adda Chak No. 478 Jeem Be, Tehsil Shorkot Distt Jhang) registration suspended till appearance before DC.
Censure issued to the doctors included Dr. Sumera Irfan (15304-P), Dr. Johnson Shafiq Asi (25675-P) and Dr. M. Fayyaz Yazdani (13119-P). Similarly, warning issued to the doctors included Dr. M. Aslam (13269-P), Dr. Javed Iqbal Bajwani (34070-P), Dr. Salamat Ullah (34384-P), Dr. Adnan Khan Laghari S/O Ghulam Mustafa Khan Laghari, Mughal Eye Hospital (Trust), Lahore, Dr. Farrukh Arsalan (66096-P), Dr. Khurram Shahzad (54490-P), Dr. Tariq Mahmood (17310-P), Dr. M. Farooq (41813-P) and Dr. Farah Farooq (40339-P).
Those doctors who were exonerated included Dr. Abdul Rauf Mazhar (23514-P), Dr. Aslam Farooq (13234-P), Dr. Khurram Saadat (8698-P), Dr. Nusrat Ali (2294-P), Dr. Riaz Qadeer Khan (18296-P), Dr. Khadim Hussain Khan (45881-P), Dr. Farrukh Aftab (33292-P), Dr. Abdullah (28866-P), Dr. Amna Abdullah (30174-P), Dr. Shazia (49550-P), Dr. Rabia Mumtaz (51402-P), Dr. Ambar Arshad (70016-P), Dr. Sidra Ijaz (50047-P), Dr. Samia (36026-P), Dr. Tahir (26155-P) and Dr. Irfan Cheema (18291-P).
Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Disciplinary Committee Dr Asim Hussain said that PMDC will not tolerate any negligence or misconduct on the part of any doctor and no doctor will be allowed to play with the lives of innocent patients.He said “We are going to hold disciplinary committee meetings in all the provinces of the country to safeguard public at large.” He said that it is prior duty of all the hospitals and clinics to display patient rights at prominent places which is available at the PMDC rule book code of ethics which is also available at PMDC website www.pmdc.org.pk.
He emphasized that there is a process of filling a consent form by the doctors while undertaking any procedure. These consent forms should be properly narrated and should be in urdu. In case patient is not literate, he should be read through the consent. As it is his right to know about the procedure and his permission will also save the doctors later on.
He advised general public and patients to lodge a complaint to PMDC if they have any type of complaint with the doctor regarding misconduct or negligence. He added that the complaint can be lodged to PMDC on a stamp paper and for any other complains they can email on president@pmdc.org.pk or sms at 03025051222.
