PM accompanied by COAS to visit Saudi Arabia Thursday to discuss Yemen issue, express solidarity with KSA

ISLAMABAD, Apr 22 (INP) Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif will undertake a one-day visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the evolving situation in Yemen and express solidarity with the people and leadership of KSA.

The Prime Minister would be accompanied by a high powered delegation including Minister for Defense, Khawaja Muhammad Asif; Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif; SAPM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary, Mr. Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry.

Sources said the visit by the Prime Minister himself along with COAS would be aimed at giving a categorical assurance to the Saudi Leadership that Pakistan would standby the Kingdom and final decision about military assistance would be decided during the visit.

A high level preparatory meeting for the visit was chaired by the Prime Minister here Wednesday to discuss the Yemen issue.

The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Defence, Khawaja Muhammad Asif; Federal Minister for Finance, Mr. Muhammad Ishaq Dar; Chief of Army Staff, General Raheel Sharif; SAPM, Mr. Tariq Fatemi and Secretary Foreign Affairs, Mr. Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry.

The Prime Minister welcomed the Saudi announcement of halting its airstrikes in Yemen and entering the phase of political dialogue.
