Pakistan to deploy 30,000 army soldiers during AJK elections

MIRPUR: At least 30,000 Pakistan Army troops will be deployed across Azad Jammu Kashmir to ensure holding of the scheduled July 21 general elections in the State in free, fair and peaceful environment. It was disclosed in a high level joint meeting of the civil and military officials, returning officers, candidates contesting the polls in all electoral constituencies of the district besides their nominated representatives.
The meeting was attended among others by Brig. Muhammad Faisal of Pak Army, Deputy Commissioner Mirpur Ch. Amjad Iqbal, SP Mirza Zahid, sub divisional magistrates and other officials of the local law enforcement agencies.
District Returning Officer Mirpur Ch. Muhammad Munir media that scheduled elections to 49-seat AJK Legislative Assembly are being held under the supervision of army.
Pak army men will be deployed at the polling stations in all four electoral constituencies to assist the local civil law enforcement agencies to maintain peace and order to ensure peaceful holding of the polling, he added.
