Pak female team to participate in int’l Powerlifting event for first time

ISLAMABAD: For the first time in history, Pakistan female team will be participating in the Asian Powerlifting Championship to be staged at Muscat from October 1 to 5.
A seven-member national team will leave to participate in Asian Powerlifting Championship from Lahore on October 1 (Thursday).
According to Secretary, Pakistan Powerlifting Federation, Muhammad Rashid Malik the Asian Powerlifting Championship will be played at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex, Muscat.
The seven-member national team includes four male and three female players. The men players comprise Mahmood Heera (120 Kg), Syed Nadeem Hashmi (105 Kg), Sohail Butt (84 Kg) and Rashed Malik (93 Kg) while female players are Twinkle Sohail (57Kg), Sonia Azmat (63Kg) and Shazia Kanwal Butt (84 Kg+). However, Haider Ali and Muhammad Zahid will accompany the team as manager and coach, respectively.
Rashid Malik said this is the first ever participation of Pakistan Women Powerlifting team at any international Powerlifting Championships. The team after participation in the Asian Championship will return to Lahore from Muscat on October 6.
