Mirwaiz Umar Farooq put under house arrest in Srinagar

SRINAGAR: In occupied Kashmir, in a bid to foil the Eidgah march, the occupation authorities placed APHC Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest on Wednesday morning.
The authorities did not allow Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to hold a rally at Shaheed Chowk Hawal in Srinagar in connection with scheduled programme of martyrs’ week, on Wednesday (today).
Complete shutdown will be observed, tomorrow, to mark the martyrdom anniversaries of prominent liberation leaders, Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq and Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has also given a call for marc towards Eidgah in Srinagar to pay tributes to the martyrs.
Mirwaiz Molvi Muhammad Farooq was martyred by unidentified gunmen at his residence in Srinagar on 21st May 1990. 70 mourners were killed in Hawal area of the city when Indian troops opened fire upon his funeral procession.
On the same day, in 2002, Khawaja Abdul Ghani Lone, was shot dead by
unknown assailants when he was returning from Eidgah after addressing a public gathering.
