ISLAMABAD: Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali pledged that Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) would hold a transparent, public, open and frank inquiry into allegations of New York Times about Pakistani IT firm, Axact.
Speaking to media persons here on Wednesday, Nisar said that media should not jump to any conclusion about the allegations. “Nothing has been proved yet at this stage against the Axact. It is going to take some time before we reach to any conclusion,” he said.
“Axact has 10 directors. One of them is head of the Education department allegedly involved in the scam. We have issued notice to him,” he said. The interior minister said that no pressure would be accepted and a transparent inquiry would be ensured.
He also rejected media criticism that government launched the inquiry in a hasty manner on the report of a foreign outlet. The interior minister also urged media not to create an over hype on this sensitive and complicated issue.
To a question, Nisar said he has cancelled the security clearance of Bol TV. “The affected party went to the court and got a stay order,” he said.
He also rejected allegations of New York Times that Pakistan government was aware of the scam.
“It is hard to believe that the Pakistani government was unaware of a major scam orchestrated by Axact, a software company based in Karachi that operates a global network of fake online schools that sell bogus diplomas,” NYT wrote in its editorial published today.
