HYDERBAD: The polling for Sindh Bar Council for next 5 years term is being held today for 33 seats Karachi with 4 districts of East,West,South and Central has 16 while 23 other districts of whole Sindh have 17 seats. This an old arrangement with flaws still continue which reflects as if Karachi city has population equal to 23 other districts of Sindh. Another short coming in byelaws of SBC is that the candidates contesting from any district has to get majority of lawyer-votes of whole division that is so fatigable for candidates from any small district. For example one seat is allotted to Badin-Thatta and Sujawal districts and candidates contesting from this one seat have to do election work in whole Hyderabad division that is each candidate has to travel and visit lawyer bars in Hyderabad, Matiari, Tando Muhammad Khan, Tando Allahyar, Hala, Mehr ,Kotri, Jamshoro, Dadu apart from Badin, Sujawal and Thatta. In such age old arrangement which has not been brought improvement since long any lawyer from big bar like Hyderabad with 1400 lawyer votes can easily win seat of any small district of the division on strength of Hyderabad votes depriving the small district of its own representation.
Apart from 16 seats from Karachi, Hyerabad division has 5 seats 3 from former Hyderabad district, one each from Dadu-Jamshoro and Badin-Thatta plus Sujawal districts,Sukkur division has 6 seats, Larkana 3 and Mirpurkhas division 3 seats. There are in all 11500 lawyers entitled to vote for 33 seats.
