Killed Al Qaeda commander’s relatives among six taken into custody

KARACHI: Relatives of an Al Qaeda commander who was killed during an operation carried out by law enforcement agencies are among six people who were taken into custody on Wednesday. Those taken into custody include the commander’s father, uncle and friend.

The father of Al Qaeda commander Abdul Ahad said he had not been in contact with his son for five months.

On Tuesday, a senior official of the country’s intelligence agency lost his life while an Al Qaeda commander and his accomplice were killed in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Karachi.

The terrorists were wanted for the May 13 attack on a bus of the Ismaili community near Safoora Chowk.

Police said a team led by the assistant director of the intelligence agency came under attack during a raid on a hideout in Gulshan-e-Iqbal’s Block 13-D.

The intelligence officer was injured when the terrorist opened fire on the team of law enforcers and he succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

The Al Qaeda commander and his accomplice identified as Saleh Aziz were killed in retaliatory fire.
