GAZA CITY: Israel shelled a hospital in the central Gaza Strip on Monday, killing five people and wounding at least 70, medics said.
Emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra said the 70 injured included at least 20 hospital staff, among them doctors.
He said the third floor of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in Deir al-Balah had been hit, with an interior ministry official saying it was hit by Israeli tank fire.
Palestinian television showed footage of wounded people, including medical staff, being treated after the bombing.
Palestinians mostly women and children were martyred in few hours, as Israel’s barbaric air and ground aggression intensified.
Bodies from the debris are still being recovered after Sunday’s bombings in which 120 Palestinians were martyred while 60 more were killed in Israeli bombings and shelling by tanks on Monday.
A family of nine Palestinians including seven children were killed by an Israeli air strike on their home in Gaza, said emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra.
Sixteen bodies have been recovered from a house in Gaza city, which has taken the death toll beyond 500 during the 14 days of air strike and ground attacks.
Israel has continued with its bombing and ground attacks on Gaza in the garb of destroying Hamas hideouts, however, the majority of those killed had no affiliations with any militant organisation and are mostly women and children.
Yesterday was the bloodiest day for Israel also as 13 of its soldiers were also killed in the fight and several sustained injuries.
According to US administration, two Americans were also found killed among the 13 Israeli soldiers and it could not be ascertained whether they possessed Israeli citizenship or not.
