KARACHI: A private security guard has shot and killed Third secretary at the Afghan consulate, Muhammad Zaki Adu, in the lobby of the Consulate General of Afghanistan in Karachi’s Old Clifton.
According to statement by Deputy Inspector General South Azad Khan, a private security guard Rehmat ullah else Hayatullah, clash among the private security guards, one of opened fire which resulted, killing a Third secretary Consulate of Afghanistan and other injured.
DIG South police said, “Hayatullah has been arrested and the event does not appear to be an act of terrorism. He used a machine gun in the firing.” The guard was taken into custody following the incident and the situation controlled by the Rangers and a heavy police contingent surrounded the consulate immediately after the attack amid fears of a possible terror attack.
There are number of foreign missions surrounding the Afghan consulate in Karachi’s Old Clifton area. Police and Rangers have cordoned off the area and spokesman stated there was no any terrorist attack but the private company’s guard firing incident reported.
