PESHAWAR: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) on Friday arrested Dera Ismail Khan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Controller of Examinations Lal Baz, who is involved in the embezzlement of official goods worth more than Rs 15 million.
The NAB said that many complaints were received regarding corruption in the BISE. “Taking notice of the complaints, the NAB director general authorised inquiry into the matter,” the NAB said in a press release. The inquiry revealed that excessive funds were embezzled in the form of excess withdrawals, purchases on exorbitant rates and wasteful expenditures by the accused. The NAB on Thursday also arrested Latif Hussain, aide of police official Rajab Ali, who is under arrest for accumulating ill-gotten wealth. “Both of the accused are shareholders in the purchase of land in Thatta Khalil village in Taxila,” the press release said.

“Latif Hussain tried to mislead the NAB investigation team by jointly preparing a forged document with Rajab Ali showing that he had purchased 10 acres of land worth Rs 14.087 million from Rajab Ali and his family,” it added. Rajab Ali, during his tenure as the deputy superintendent police (DSP) in Mardan district and station house officer (SHO) in Hayatabad, was accused of making “illegal assets” worth millions of rupees.
