FIA arrests five for illegal hundi business; seizes currency in millions; busts illegal int’l gateway exchange

PESHAWAR/GUJRANWALA, Nov 11 (INP): The FIA on Wednesday arrested five persons for illegal business of Hawala and Hundi and recovered foreign and Pakistani currency from their possession.

According to FIA assistant director Shahid Ilyaz, under the National Action Plan, the FIA arrested five persons for illegal hawala business from Yadqar chowk area of Peshawar.

The FIA recovered Rs6 million Pakistani currency, 31000US dollars, 5000 Euros, 3500 Australian dollars, 6000 Swedish currency and prize bonds.

The FIA registered FIR against the accused and started investigation.

FIA busts illegal int’l gateway exchange in Gujranwala

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday busted a gateway exchange and seized latest devices and other equipment during operation in Gujranwala.

According to sources, a team of FIA carried out a raid at a house in Bhatti Bhango near Nandipur Power Project and seized a gateway exchange run by a man namely Tariq for the past couple of years.

According to initial investigation, the evidence of contacts with other countries including Afghanistan through this automatic gateway exchange have also been found.

The seized exchange was capable of calling on 100,000 connections and to provide internet facility within the range of 30 kilometers, however the raiding team seized latest equipment but the accused managed to flee.

The raiding team has launched operation for the arrest of the accused.
