KARACHI/THATTA: The training regarding Climate and Disaster Risk Management focused on preparedness, response and mitigation of different hazards with simulation drills was organized here at Keenjher Lake.
Provincial secretary social welfare department Sharique Ahmed also visited the site and participated in training workshop, on the occasion, he said that Pakistan is facing different Disasters nowadays, so that we all must work hard, understand and ensure the Community based disaster risk management skills. He further advised participants to learn and replicate the knowledge to their respective departments and communities”
On Sunday, 14th days ending session by Malteser International in collaboration of Pakistan Fisherfolk project under the title “Strengthening of Resilience through DRR and Livelihood Measures in Vulnerable Coastal Community of Thatta” was organized with all objectives.
In the 14 days training on Disaster risk management skill building and capacity development of government officers in regards to mitigate and cope up the disasters by the different departments nominated by the PDMA and DDMA were attended on the occasion.
The training was focused on preparedness, response and mitigation of different hazards. Simulation drills were also held at Keenjher Lake. All participants showed great interest and enthusiastically participated in simulations.
Provincial Manager Malteser International Mubashir Soomro said that our goal is to strengthen of resilience and improvement of livelihood of extremely vulnerable communities of Thatta, Thatta District is prone to the multi hazards and we shall aware and educate local community to mitigate and cope up the disasters. He said that Government is the leading stake holder and always play a vital role in the management of disasters. We hope that these trained officers transfer their practices and experience to their respective departments and communities.
Ayaz Khan the lead trainer said that Disaster risk management should be main streaming in all development projects. DRR should be integrated part of education.
Regional Manager PFF Mir Baloch said that we recognize that managing disaster risk is one of the key contributing factors to achieving poverty reduction, he further said that local wisdom to cope up the disaster is very good however there is still need to improve the skills in disaster risk management, this training will improve the existing practices.
NGO focal personal Thatta K.B Bharani and Imran jokhio also highlighted the importance of Disaster risk management.
