ISLAMABAD: Differences emerged among the members of the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) as the 10 members of the body met on Friday to review recommendations submitted against Geo News.
The body decided to forward its recommendations to the law ministry. The PEMRA members will meet again on May 16 to decide the matter in the light of recommendations of the law ministry.
Majority of the members were of the view that the matter should not be decided in haste.
They said that the matter should be decided according to law when one of the members Israr Abbasi said the ISI had submitted the complaint for the first time.
Israr Ali Abbasi said he recommended that Geo’s license should be cancelled but few members wanted to take the matter to the Council of Complaint of the PEMRA.
He said that he had resigned from the three-member committee overseeing the PEMRA affairs in the absence of its chairman. He, however, will remain a member of the PEMRA authority.
