FAISALABAD: Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif on Thursday visited flood hit areas of Athara, Hazari, Jhang, Shorkot and reviewed the arrangements made by the local as well as provincial administration for the relief of flood stricken people.
The CM reached the flood hit area through a helicopter and took aerial view of the relief arrangements as well as distribution of food stuff among the affectees of the flood.
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed sorrow and grief over the flood devastation and said that the people did not act on the advice of the government on taking preventive measures against flood devastation. He said that the people of Jhang and its surroundings areas were informed about the severity of the flood before its occurrence through electronic and print media besides making announcements through loudspeakers of the mosques.
He said the people didn’t pay proper attention to these announcements. Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) warned the people through mobile phone messages (SMSs) and requested them repeatedly to shift to safer places before flood onslaught.
Flood emergency was also announced in Jhang and its peripheral localities but the people were not ready to leave their homes due to which the situation became more serious. However the Punjab government and its all allied units were taking optimum steps and utilizing all available resources for the help of flood affectees.
