Bus-truck collision leaves 59 dead at Therhi bypass near Sukkur

SUKKUR/KHAIRPUR/GHOTKI: As many as 59 people killed and 18 reported as injured when an accelerated passenger bus collided with goods truck near Khairpur on Tuesday.
Reports told that the bus was traveling to Karachi from Sawat, driver tried to overtake another vehicle and rammed into a truck coming from the opposite side resulting 18 children, 21 women and 17 men were killed while 18 sustained serious injuries.
The injured were shifted to Khairpur civil hospital for medical treatment. A senior doctor at the hospital reported that three of the injured are in very critical condition. A four-year old girl remained safe in the whole incident who rescued by the rescue officers. Motorway police, rescue workers and nearby residents commenced the rescue operation immediately after the accident.
A section of the National Highway near the accident spot has been under construction for the few years while the other side is also partially damaged.
MNA Nafisa Shah and DIG Motorways said the National Highway Authority is the responsible for the accident,
Pakistan has an appalling record of fatal traffic accidents due to poor roads, badly-maintained vehicles and reckless driving, In April a bus smashed into a tractor-trailer in a high speed collision in Pano Aqil, killing 42 people.
Chief Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) expressed grief over the deadly.
President Mamnoon Hussain and Governor Sindh Dr Ishratul Ebad expressed sorrow over the loss and ordered an inquiry into the incident.
