Asif Zardari distributes cheques among families of police martyrs

KARACHI: Former President of Pakistan and Co-Chairman PPP Mr. Asif Ali Zardari has directed government of Sindh to raise the compensation amount form Rs. 2 million to Rs 10 million for the Police Personal who embraced martyrdom while performing their duties and impart education to their children free of cost for which he offered the services of SZABIST.
When he said while addressing a ceremony organized by Sindh police department to give compensation cheques to 61 families of policemen who lost their lives on duty. He said that life of a person is precious and it cannot be returned through cash. But it becomes a big loss for the family to lose his bread earner. “I , therefore urge upon the government of Sindh to appoint a women police officer of a SSP rank to run the Police Welfare Organization and make an agreement with the SZABIST to provide them free standard education to the children of Martyred police personal.
He emphasizes the need of giving full ownership to the police personals in all means. He directed the Sindh Government to make required laws to introduce insurance policy for all the Govt employees and under the same policy government properties may be ensured. He said that in addition to compensation his government in Sindh would fulfill all other necessities, including providing jobs, residential plots etc to the victim families of police martyred.
Further he said the major difficulty in disposing off the compensation cases was to define the heirs of martyred. He directed the Chief Secretary Sindh to evolve an efficient mechanism by which all the heirs of Govt employees be registered in advance. The former President Mr. Asif Ali Zardari said that he knows, what the martyrdom was, as he himself belonged to the family of martyrs. He said that Shaheed Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Muhtrama Benazir Bhutto embraced with martyrdom and we are the followers of their mission. He said that those who doesn’t feel the pain of martyrs, cannot be considered as follower of Bhuttoism.
Earlier, The Ex-President & Co-Chairman Mr. Asif Ali Zardari distributed 61 compensation cheques each of Rs 2 million among the hires of martyred police personals. He also presented keys of the residential flats to the in-service police personals during the ceremony. The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah while addressing on the occasion said that It was PPP Govt which has given ownership to the policemen. “Before the tenure of PPP Govt, the Sindh Police was working in very weaker position with depressed atmosphere. Neither it neither was equipped with latest equipments nor received latest training.
As a result, law and order situation was deteriorated day by day. “When PPP came into power it raised the moral of the Sindh Police force and enhanced their budget from Rs 10 billion to Rs 60 billion on the directives of PPP Chief Asif Ali Zardari he added and said that his Government also raised the compensation amount for the heirs of martyrs police personals from Rs 2 lac to 5 lac in 2008 and again It was raised from Rs 5 lac to Rs20 lac, besides in some cases of extra ordinary bravery the Sindh Govt gave away compensation up to Rs two crores as directed by Ex-President & Co Chairman Asif Ali Zardari.
Despite he said that at present Sindh Govt was providing International standard training to the Sindh Police and it has created many other special wings for fighting with Terrorism effectively, the Rapid Response Force was worth mentioning here.The Chief Minister Sindh further said that due to these efforts and encouragement, the Sindh Police was fighting with terrorism effectively as such 60% to 65% of heinousness crimes has been declined in the Karachi City while there was respite in other crimes as well.
Lauding the performance of Sindh Police the Chief Minister Sindh said that peaceful observance of Muhram-ul-Haram and Eid celebrations peacefully since last 3 years was evident that Sindh Police in collaboration of Rangers was working well.
Asif Ali Zardari said that Sindh Govt has planned to further strengthen the Sindh Police to combat with terrorism with success. Earlier, The Inspector General of Sindh Police Ghulam Hyder Jamali while briefing the ceremony said that since last year 2014 Sindh Police conducted more than 4000 operation, arrested 13000 culprits and killed 799 criminals in different encounter. He added that among the killed criminals 164 were terrorist, 42 kidnapers and 592 dacoits.
Giving details of the policemen embraced martyrdom, IGP said during these encounter 181 police personals lost their lives. He said due to efforts and interest of PPP Govt, the moral of police has run high. It was being facilitated with latest equipment, training and turned in to a strong force of the country.
Meanwhile he praised the government measures for raising the compensation amount from Rs 5 lac to 20 laces and made their salaries equivalent to the Punjab police. The Senior Vice Chairman PPP MNA Makhdoom Amin Faheem, Senator Rehman Malik, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durani, All the members of Sindh Cabinet, MNA’s / MPA’s and senior officers of the government attended the ceremony.
