KARACHI: Another polio case has surfaced in Sindh, pushing this year’s tally to 24 in the province and to 238 across the country.
According to Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI), 8-month old Mohammad Khan, son of Mohammad Ayub, a resident of Taluqa Matli in Badin district, was diagnosed with polio virus.
Twenty-one out of 24 polio cases in Sindh were reported from the areas located in the outskirts of Karachi city this year.
A total of 238 cases have been reported from the country so far this year, while 64 health workers have been targeted and killed by the militants since December 2012.
A recent World Health Organisation (WHO) report said Pakistan was responsible for nearly 80 per cent of polio cases reported globally.
Meanwhile, a three-day anti-polio campaign that began on Monday is underway in selected districts of Sindh as well as in 86 of the 97 union councils of Karachi amid tight security.
