70 transporters penalized for overcharging commuters on Eid

PESHAWAR: Taking notice of the growing public complaints regarding the overcharging of commuters’ by public transport, District Government Peshawar launched crackdown against transporters.
For this purpose, District Nazim Mohammad Asim Khan constituted four different teams comprising of Assistant Commissioner (A.C), Mumtaz Ahmad, Director Transport, Manzoor Ahmad, Additional Assistant Commissioners (AACs), Mahmood Ahmad, Ahmad Kamal, Altaf Hussain and Javed Anwar Kamal.
These specially constituted teams carried out operation on commuters’ complaints penalized more than 70 vehicles out of which the route permits of 37 were cancelled while thousands of rupees collected through overcharging were returned to commuters.
Similarly, 27 drivers which were not boarding commuters at Haji Camp Bus Stands and Charsadda Bus Stands were taken into custody under 3 MPO.
Furthermore, the District Nazim also directed Manager, Kohat Bus Stands, Mazhar Khan, Manager, Haji Camp Bus Stands, Imran Khan and Charsadda Bus Stands Rizwan Khan for carrying strict checking of the vehicles in their respective stands to prevent the fleecing of commuters at the hands of transporters.
On this occasion, the District Nazim, Mohammad Asim Khan also visited different check points and collecting information from commuters by himself. During visit to Kohat Bus Stands, he directed the construction of three additional toilets, erecting of shads, provision of drinking water and bringing improvement in the conditions of the stands.
