KARACHI: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Makhdoom Amin Fahim was among eleven people indicted by an accountability court in the National Insurance Company Limited (NICL) case.
The accountability court indicted the accused in the absence of Amin Fahim and Salman Ghani.
Those accused present in court today denied charges against them.
Accused in the case include Amin Fahim, Ayaz Khan Niazi, Salman Ghani, Amin Qasim Dada, Muhammad Zahoor, Zahid Hussain, Hur Rahi Gardezi, Naveed Hussain Zaidi, SM Iqbal, Amir Hussain and Khawaja Akbar Butt.
Suspects in the case are accused of purchasing 10 acres in Karachi’s Korangi area and selling it to the government at an inflated price which led to millions in losses to the national exchequer.
The court has summoned witnesses during the next hearing of the case scheduled for September 30.
While, reacting over the implicating PPPP President in NICL case Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) MNAs Syed Khurshed Ahmed Shah, Abdul Sattar Bachani, Ghulam Mustfa Shah and Faqir Sher Muhammad Bilalani while vehemently condemning the implication of PPP Parliamentarian President Makhdoom Amin Fahim among 10 others in NICL case termed it as worst form of political victimisation.
In a statement issued from PPP media cell Sindh, they said PPP had in its previous tenure worked for strengthening of democracy and for this goal to achieve, former President Asif Ali Zardari had while extending the vision of slain PPP leader Shaheed Benazir Bhutto introduced the policy of reconciliation. There is no record of political victimisation during PPP’s past tenure and despite worst opposition; PPP maintained the spirit of reconciliation. However, federal law enforcement authorities under the aegis of PMLN’s federal government are victimizing PPP leaders and hence the PMLN’ federal government deserves condemnation in strongest words.
They said that it is not new for the PPP leaders and workers to face adverse situations, political victimisation, arrests and imprisonment and even to embrace martyrdom but the PMLN should now decided whether the leadership and the leaders of PMLN is ready to face similar treatment and whether the top leaders of PMLN are able to spend even a single night in police lock-up.
They said the PPP Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari was jailed for 12 years for the crime he did not commit and even that no court in the country proved any charges against him but still he did not politically victimized anyone.
They said the implication of PPPP President Makhdoom Amin Fahim in his absence was itself a big question on transparent and free trial. This has proven the entire process of trial on NICL was flawed and based on political grudge.
