ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) will hold national T20 tournament ahead of Zimbabwe tour and schedule and venue for that will be announced soon.
“The tournament can be held in Lahore, Rawalpindi or Multan and the final decision in this regard will be taken in next few days,” a PCB official told newsmen on Wednesday.
He said that PCB was in talks with the sponsors for the T20 tournament saying that it was confirmed that the event would be held in September ahead of Zimbabwe tour. Pakistan will tour Zimbabwe in the last week of next month to play a series comprising of two Twenty20s and three ODIs.
The official said around 16 regional teams would take part in the event adding that qualifying rounds would also be held. He said that the event would provide an opportunity to several young players to catch the attention of selectors and pave the way for them to make an entry into national outfit. Besides the performance of some senior players will also be closely monitored, he added.
